My classroom is inspired by the educational belief and philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori. The Montessori philosophy coupled with components of traditional education creates this ‘Transitional Montessori’ method; one that has evolved to meet the demands of high-stake testing and the rigors of continuing education.
As an educator I believe…
What this looks like in my classroom?
As an educator I believe…
- Each child is born to be a learner.
- The full potential of each child is realized through an ordered, challenging, nurturing environment.
- Each child’s needs are the central and commanding focus of the learning process.
What this looks like in my classroom?
- The classroom is designed to develop habits of inquiry, work and wonder and to foster a life-long love of learning.
- I create an environment that encourages internal self-discipline.
- Instruction is delivered individually, in small groups, and in large groups.
- Instruction is adapted to each child’s learning style.
- Children are encouraged to teach, collaborate, and help each other.
- Children are provided with manipulatives to explore concepts with concrete objects.
- Children are given opportunities to select concepts to be covered and are given choices on how they will share their acquired knowledge.
- I work to observe, to know, and encourage the child as he/she progresses in learning.
